I feel like TJ covered the top two main points of this article, however I did find another one. I think part of the speech was to prove that African Americans did not have nearly as many rights as White people and they dealt with it very well. The speech was intended to show strength and to prove that the African Americans were no longer going to take the physical and verbal abuse from the whites any longer. They wanted to gain acceptance into society and the only way to do that was to make themselves be noticed.
